The pews have been in the sanctuary longer than most of the congregation. The finish has gone dull, the cushions have flattened, and replacing them outright would cost more than the building's whole maintenance budget. They are also, usually, better made than anything you could buy new. You want somebody who turns up, tells you straight what it needs, and does it properly the first time. From a light clean and rejuvenation of the existing finish through to a full strip and refinish. These are very different scopes and prices and should be quoted explicitly.
Work is normally done in sections so services continue. Some shops work on site; others remove pews in batches to a workshop, which affects both price and disruption.
